Ning/Scott County Libraries

The SCOTT COUNTY LIBRARIES group has disappeared from NING.

WJMN

I skipped ahead to WJMN after reading some of the participants blogs. I was disappointed to see how few librarians make their names, libraries, etc public to MN librarians. I did find two former classmates/co-workers whom I have asked to be friends.

This would make a great site for sharing ideas(selection, policies) and just catching up with co-workers and library friends.

I am also excited about having one place to check for class opportunities!

I found WJMN easy for sign up/registration, inviting friends and browsing classes.

Twitter Friends

I discovered 2 friends on Twitter, although it looks like neither friend uses Twitter regularly. I have invited several personal friends to join Twitter.

140 characters is not very much! I'm not sure how much I will use Twitter. If I were working on a joint project with several librarians outside of the library system it might be helpful.

Twitter

After getting hung up on blog toolbox I skipped ahead to Twitter. Opened an account. After doing both NING and TWITTER I need to take a break from all of this tech stuff and look at some books.

With "office communication" I already communicate with short messages to people within Scott County. It seems like that is an internal "twitter".

Ning Thing

I joined Ning Thing! Successfully imported my photo(a first!). I also created a group for Scott County Library System in the hopes of finding someone else doing 23 things! I sent out invitations to colleagues hoping to find someone.

We'll see how this works!

Snap shots

Introducing Snap Shots from Snap.com
I just installed a nice little tool on this site called Snap Shots that enhances links with visual previews of the destination site, interactive excerpts of Wikipedia articles, MySpace profiles, IMDb profiles and Amazon products, display inline videos, RSS, MP3s, photos, stock charts and more.
Sometimes Snap Shots bring you the information you need, without your having to leave the site, while other times it lets you "look ahead," before deciding if you want to follow a link or not.
Should you decide this is not for you, just click the Options icon in the upper right corner of the Snap Shot and opt-out.

E-mail Post

I was unsuccessful at posting via e-mail. I successfully added my daughters wedding pictures to my delicious account.

I think I would be better suited to the original 23 things. I have so much to learn. Today I went back to delicious and corrected some links that didn't work.

I hate to admit how much time each step takes me!

i have added Shapshot but have not figured out how to use it.

THING 25-Bloggers Toolkit

Now that I have created the blog I am trying to customize using the Bloggers Toolkit. I may have to work on this at home as many of the sites are not accessible at work.

Set up mail-to-blogger address.

Can't view video on widgets/just text. Tried to get to snapsots

Thing 11

This one is fun. Since I work as a Reference Float at various Scott County Libraries I will have a portable "favorites".

Thing 4

I have set up a Flickr account but will need to be at my home computer to add photos. This will be a fun way to post photos for family that live around the country(Illinois, California and Minnesota). I'll let you know if I am able to successfuly post a photo! I am not sure yet how i would use this as a librarian. A ha, I could post a picture of the Scott County Law Library--but first I need to get a digital photo or copy one from the county website. Any ideas on how to do that?

Thing 3

This was fun to set up. Since I do selection for the Scott Co. Law Libraries I set up feeds for Talking Books on MPR, New York Times Book Review, Early Word and the Star Tribune. This will make it easier for me to keep up on upcoming titles.

Thing 1

I successfully set up this blog and have created an avatar on Yahoo. However, I can't figure out how to export my avatar to this blog(yes, I am a beginner). Is it possible that a Yahoo avatar can't be exported to blogger?

Actually, I'd like to create a blog for my bookclub so that we could post comments on the book we are reading as we are reading it.
